From the Rector

By now, or soon, many of you will have received a letter from myself and Junior Warden, John Stewart, letting you know about our summer project fundraiser, “Let There Be Light!” This is a first step in the realization of our vision statement, which describes St. John’s as having “an intentional year-round stewardship effort.” We’ve received a lot of feedback in the last months that the lighting in the church, especially on grey and gloomy days, is poor. This can dampen the sense of energy in the space, hinders some parishioners’ ability to read, and is also a safety concern for those with mobility issues trying to navigate the steps up to the altar.

The foundation of giving at St. John’s is a pledge. This is an opportunity to give generously beyond a pledge. If you haven’t pledged to the life and ministry of St. John’s, its not to late. Contact Susan Meyers, Parish Administrator, in the office and she’ll get you a pledge card. The Vestry and Finance and Stewardship Team understand that some will not be able to give to another project beyond their pledge, but many will. Thank you for praying and pondering over this project and your role in it. If we raise more money than we need to update the bulbs in the church to LEDs, we’ll use the extra money for the installation of handrails.

If you’d like to learn more about giving to this project, contact Susan Meyers, if you have technical questions about the changes that will be made, what kind of lighting and so on, please contact John Stewart, Junior Warden. Lastly, thank you for Giving Generously to St. John’s.

Blessings,

Father Kevin+

 5th Sunday Dinners

Please mark your calendars for the next 5th Sundays: June 30, September 29, & December 29.

We’re in need of 5th Sunday Coordinators who organize the event and 5th Sunday Cooks who plan the main meal and much of the preparation on the day of. We also need general volunteers to help with set up, clean up, serving, and more. Our Coordinators (thank you!), Haley Lammer-Heindel, Christine Darr, and Derrick Clark, are more than willing to help people know the details, what needs to be done, and more. If you are interested in coordinating, cooking or volunteering, please contact them or contact the parish office.

Let There Be Light Fundraiser, going through July 31

Help us reach our goal of raising $3,000 by July 31 to replace our light bulbs with LEDs and install hand rails. Anything you can contribute will help. We will keep track of our fund raising progress each week by filling in a tracking meter in the shape of a light bulb. Look for the light bulb poster in the sanctuary which will accompanied by additional brochures. Please direct any additional questions to our Junior Warden, John Stewart,or email the office and remember to give generously!

From the Altar Guild

As the flowers in your garden start to bloom and/or you visit farmer’s market, please remember flowers for the altar. Just choose a Sunday you want to bring flowers and reserve that date on our calendar. The flower calendar is located beside the elevator on the main floor. How wonderful to have flowers on God’s altar that you picked from your garden or purchased at market!
